Energy disasters

Following up on yesterday’s comment, I got to thinking about energy disasters.

The BP spill in the Gulf of Mexico is just one of many disasters with oil.

Coal mining is dirty and dangerous.

Nuclear power has had at least two memorable accidents.

Hydroelectric dams can fail and flood.

Wind power can be dangers to flying animals, but I’m having hard time imagining a a failure that would endanger so many human lives and jobs as to rate as a “disaster.”

I am having a hard time imagining a solar power failure that could threaten anyone. Burns from steam if you were using concentrating mirrors is about as close as I’ve come.
